Univision national news anchor Maria Elena Salinas has added "author" to
her credits.
The National Emmy winner, journalist and syndicated columnist debuts in the
literary world with I Am My Father's Daughter: Living a Life Without Secrets,
published simultaneously in Spanish and English.
In the memoir, Salinas tells the story of her journey to the top amid her
struggle to come to terms with family secrets.
Father's Daughter details her childhood in a poverty-stricken Los Angeles
neighborhood; her adolescence spent working in a Southern California
sweatshop; her break into network television; and the astonishing discovery
that her father once was a Catholic priest.
As Salinas launches her first book tour, she celebrates her 25th
anniversary at Univision. Earlier this month, she was honored with the Premio
Orgullo, or Pride Award, at the Hispanic Federation's annual gala in New York.
Salinas, the U.S.-born daughter of an undocumented immigrant from Mexico,
began her career in 1981 as a reporter for Univision's KMEX-34 in Los Angeles.
For more than 20 years, Salinas has shared the anchor desk of the national
newscast Noticiero Univision with Jorge Ramos.
